it's my first time in Europe and I gotta admit, I'm actually surprised at how....French it is here! I mean, everyone is carrying baguettes, smoking, riding bicycles, wearing red lipstick, and drinking wine with like, every meal. the children are adorable, I am tempted to steal one. and contrary to what you've heard, everyone is very nice! you just have to look like you know what you're doing and then if things get confusing, just say "I'm sorry" a lot in French. I love it. love love love love it.
SO, I'd love to know...what do you recommend that I do while I'm in Paris? where should I shop, eat, visit, learn, and party? tell me everything you know!!!
holy crap, I already want to move here.

Go and see Oscar Wilde's stunning gravestone and you can check out Jim Morrisson too.
Go to Montmartre, wander around and drink coffee/wine (depending on the time of day). That, to me, is Paris in a nutshell. Enjoy.
you must go to this store!!

Of course the sights too.
luxembourg gardens, pompidou, notre dame....it's all amazing!
I havent been there since 2005, so some recommendations could be outdated, but here goes:
Tagine and Cocktails - 404 (restaurant) and Andy Wahloo (next door lounge) - 69 Rue Gravilliers, 3rd arrondissement
Tea, Hookah and Baths - Grande Mosquee - 2 bis place du puits de l'Ermite, 5th
Perfume - Serge Lutens - Jardin du Palais Royale - 142 Galerie de Valois, 1st
Books - I know it's cliche, but I love Shakespear and Co right on the Seine (left bank) near Notre Dame.
Circus - Cirque d'Hiver - Rue Amelot 110 - 11e arrondissement
Museums and Cemeteries- I LOVED Napoleon's apartments in the Louvre, but my favorite museum is Musee D'Orsay and the Orangerie. I love ALL Parisian cemeteries, but go at high time otherwise you'll see a lot of clandestine creeps.
Cafes - Also cliche, but Les Deux Magots is good people watching. And any cafe near Sacre Coeur on Montmartre.
Fabric - GREAT fabric (well priced) on the hill down from Montmatre.
Park - Parc des Butte Chaumont - 19th arrondissement at the Rue Botzaris and has two metro entrances: Botzaris and Buttes Chaumont.
Le Cambodge at 10, avenue Richerand (quai de Jemmapes) -- Open at 6 if I remember, BYO and expect a line. Closed on Sunday. Outdoor seating. Near the Canal St Martin, which has a lively young scene and outdoor bars right on the canal bank.
--Restaurant Ave Maria at 1, rue Jacquard, Paris 75011. Brazilian - Open for dinner only
Bon Voyage!
I almost forgot-- you MUST lunch at Le petit fer de cheval in the Marais at 30 vielle de temple.
Hope you´re still in PAris!!!
My recommendation would be just to walk, walk a lot, get lost through the little streets, don´t stay in the big avenues or the classic tourist spots. Walk and watch the buildings, the people, the stores! Eat crepes in the streets, buy macaroons and pastries in the little bakerys... and cheese! eat cheese!!! It is true that parisian are not nice, I haven´t had a bad experience in two trips there either!
Good luck! I´m so jealous of you!!!
What you need, mon amie, is the Go Go Guide to Paris. This isn't a plug, but a genuine recommendation! I spent a month in Paris this past summer and found the Go Go Guide to be INDISPENSABLE. Will email the Spring/Summer edition to you-- it's still good, even if particular events have passed. Amazing maps and everything.
Slow Bicycle's recs are great-- and not out of date at all! Add The Bar at Laduree to the mix-- walk through and straight back, past the macaron cases on the left. Also, put your confused body clock to use by strolling around the Left Bank in the wee hours of the morning; the last time I did same, stumbled into a piano bar (have forgotten the name) where the chansons-- and the wine-- were in full effect until dawn.
When you go to Butte Chaumont, be sure to have a drink at Rosa Bonheur-- a little bar tucked into some corner or another of the park. You'll find it!
Get lost! Have fun!
Oh, shoot-- the date on this post. Didn't notice before, was so excited to share! You could very well be back Stateside already. C'est dommage!
That's really nice, Have a wonderful vacation in Paris.. I'm so looking forward to visit the place someday.
Bienvenue à Paris, je suis née à Paris et j'habite à quelques kilomètres. Il faut marcher pour connaitre la ville pour trouver les boutiques originales. Bon séjour.
