it's been so long since I've taken a vacation, I actually forgot what one felt like. the only time I really get out of LA is to go back home for a visit and I can hardly call that a vacation since I'm usually in town for a wedding or an occasion and I end up with a carefully planned schedule from 8am til well past midnight, trying to make sure I see all my friends, family, and get my hair done, of course...I just said that all in one breath, didn't I? oops.
Palm Springs was beyond fabulous and exactly what I needed. the house was to die for. it was built in 1965 by Abe Schwartz and nestled against a huge row of mountains, just inside the gates of a mid-century housing development. boasting polished concrete floors, a sunken den, and a marble fireplace with Moroccan tiling, I could definitely call this place home.
the living room with a tiled fire place that was also accessible from the sunken den on the other side of the marble wall. we didn't really spend much time in this room, seeing that there's a salt water pool just outside the sliding glass doors...
and just behind the living room was the dining room. I guess this was another space we didn't spend much time in, except for the few of us who hauled our laptops out and did a bit of work...
the indoor/outdoor dining room was really lovely and the perfect place for a Saturday sit-down dinner. we easily fit 12 girls around that table and talked and laughed hysterically until the hot tub called our names...
you know, I've never really been much of a water baby, but this pool changed my mind.
I think the den was my favorite room in the house, what with the custom-made white leather sectional, the eggplant-colored shaggy carpeting, the marble and gold-tiled fireplace, the Jonathan Adler pillows, and the super cool wooden occasional tables that were carved to look twisted.
sorry for the blurry photos...I'm still getting used to the manual setting on my camera. also, there were a lot of cocktails involved in this weekend.
I wanted to capture that tile in the sun and took this photo as we were getting ready to leave. looks like someone needs to squeegie that window, hm?the weekend went by far too quickly and we're all looking forward to making this a yearly event. I could really do with making it a monthly event, but my pocketbook says otherwise...my friends and I dreamed about buying the place and becoming professional pool-siders, but I'm not sure that's in our immediate future. someday, though...someday!
