I'm not even sure words can express how much I adore my kitchen! it's like an entirely new space, I can't believe what an incredible difference some white paint and wallpaper has made...it's completly opened the tiny area up and the graphic pattern makes the ceiling seem like its miles above my head.
when I got home last night, the apartment was dark...I walked inside, put my stuff down on a living room chair and closed my eyes as i shuffled toward the kitchen, not really having any idea what to expect. i reached blindly for the lightswitch, flipped it on, and I opened my eyes for the big reveal (you can click on all photos for a larger image)...
this is now what I see when I walk in my front door and look left. it's so bright and cheerful, I cannot even believe how much different and how much BETTER it looks! lets hope my landlord likes it as much as I do...
the farm table feels much less "old lady" in front of a white wall, and I moved the thrift store ceramics from the counter to give that area a little color next to the lucite lamp. the antlers under the table were from an elk head that I got for free off craigslist, but it was in horrible shape and eventually had to go-- but I salvaged the antlers of course. the rad wicker chair is from the Rose Bowl and I got it for a steal because the legs weren't attached and it was sitting in a pile of junk. I'm not sure what to do about the windows, it's one of the things that always gives me problems. I want to keep it very simple...any ideas??
okay, my wallpaper guy even wallpapered the OUTLET COVER! how amazing is he?! i need to take some paint-thinner to the outlet itself to get a little stripe of yellow paint off, but I had to share his genius. also, that college photo of my mom and one of her best friends is the only displayed photo in my whole house. i love it.
i stored the avocado green sugar & tea containers and nixed the green colander in favor of a white one. the white enameled pot was an eBay find and I use it to keep all my veggie scraps, tea bags, and eggshells for composting.
framing and floating the print above the stove was one of my first projects in the apartment and I'm really proud of the way I went about it. it's floating on some gorgeous decorative paper from Paper Source, and I got 5 different patterns so that I could change out the background whenever I redecorated the kitchen. the navy-purple with raspberry swirls echos the purple and pink in the wallpaper without being obviously matchy.
looking through my bright white kitchen into my 'bedroom'. the lighting isnt the best in this photo, but it gives you a good idea of how much better the space looks. i replaced all of the awful gold hardware with simple white plastic pulls, which I found online for under a dollar a pair. I've come to realize that Home Depot is not always the cheapest resource, though I'll be stopping by on my way home from work to buy a white lightswitch cover.so...what do you think?!

Hot damn! Looking good!
Sure looks good. White always makes a space look bigger and gives more light. Love the touches of color. If you love it and your comfortable- thats all that matters.
