the floor in my bathroom has always been something of an eyesore and no matter how much i scrubbed, it never seemed clean. it's been there for god knows how long and while i sure it was once white, the linoleum has turned a dingy yellow. it reminds me of un-brushed teeth. sick.
anyway, i got it in my head that i had to do something about it...but what? my bathroom is all white (which only made the yellow floor more obvious) and i decided that a black floor would look smashing. but i wanted a matte back floor, because i thought that glossy black tiles would just look too tacky. now...where was i to find matte black floor tiles? BF teased me about how I'm always making up things in my head that dont really exist, but I knew I could figure this one out. and i did! i found a great solution: RUBBER!
while searching online, i found RubberCal, a company in SoCal with all sorts of rubber flooring solutions; mats, tiles, you name it. i'll save you all the blah blah blah about the whole process, but basically, they delivered some sheets of rubber right to my door, i made a template of my bathroom, and now I have a gorgeous black floor!
the whole project was so easy! and whats more, the floor is made from recycled rubber, so it's enviro-friendly. oh, AND the rubber is so heavy, i didnt need to tack it down or use any stinky adhesives, so whenever i move, i can literally just pick the rubber up and return the bathroom to it's original...er, splendor. to top it all off, the whole project- the rubber, shipping, and tools and materials- cost about $100.

I am so impressed... I think I might do the same thing in my bathroom since my pops is not coming anywhere cose to redoing mine for me. You should get Bunny to be in all of your photos. Also, how long have i been yoru "parent"?

it is super easy to clean-- my dog sheds a LOT, so i sweep it every other day or so and then mop it ever other week. i use what i use on my wood floors- a big sink full of hot water and sudsy Murphys Oil Soap.
it also feels great!! its cushiony and always stays cool. water just sits on it and evaporates quickly...i love it.
Thats an interesting spot to install rubber flooring Dean. I have always seen it marketed as a weight room floor or Rubber Gym Flooring. I have also seen it used on wheel chair ramps which seems like a good idea to help prevent people from slipping when walking on them. If you get a chance, can you comment how it has held up over the long haul. I just wonder how it handles the moisture.
I am planning to use the same in my rental kitchen, since you have been using it for some time, I wondered if you have any incidents of water seeping between the rubber and accumulating on the tiles below (in between both the layers) through the edges on the side?

I've had absolutely no problems with my rubber floor. in fact, I took it out this weekend and hosed it off in the driveway and gave it a good scrub. the floor underneath the rubber is in fine condition, with no signs of rotting or mold.
you should go for it! and totally use Rubber Cal, they are so nice!
